IRWG Visiting Scholar Program
IRWG Senior Scholar Visitor Program
The purpose of the IRWG Senior Scholar Visitor program is to bring accomplished senior faculty presently employed in academic institutions outside the University of Michigan to IRWG for up to a year to engage in research that advances our understanding of women/gender and/or sexuality. Visiting Senior Scholars are expected to offer a public lecture, hold one master class meeting with dissertation students and participate in the intellectual environment of the institute. In selection decisions we consider the applicant's field of interest, scholarly achievement, plan of research, and fit with the institute’s current interests and intellectual community. Scholars from the United States and abroad who hold a PhD, as well as creative artists with a terminal degree in their field, are encouraged to apply. In addition to office space, IRWG will provide a $5000 stipend per term and $1000 for research/ professional expenses. Applications should include a statement of research plans and a curriculum vitae. It is presumed that candidates will be able to coordinate a sabbatical leave with the time spent at IRWG. Please include a statement confirming such coordination. Individuals may apply as much as a year in advance of their sabbatical plans. The application deadline is February 15, 2013.

IRWG Short-Term Visiting Scholar Program
The Institute for Research on Women and Gender welcomes Visiting Scholars from around the nation and the world. Faculty members, postdoctoral scholars, and researchers from other institutions whose work focuses on women or gender may reside at IRWG for as long as one academic year. Visiting scholars will have full access to the institute's community and will automatically be affiliated with the Women's Studies Department. Visiting Scholars may join one or more existing study groups or organize one of their own.
- Visiting Scholars will be asked to present their work at an institute-sponsored forum.
- Visiting Scholars will ordinarily be housed at the institute, where they will be provided with:
- shared office space
- an e-mail account
- University Library privileges
- No salary, stipend, research funding, health insurance, or travel or moving reimbursement is included.
- A small fund (a total of $125/semester, not to exceed $250 for an academic year) will be provided for fax and copying charges.
Appointments may be requested for fall or winter terms, or for an entire academic year. (Summer appointments only are discouraged because many university faculty are away during the summer.) Appointments will be awarded based on a fit between the candidate's interests and those of the faculty, scholars, and researchers currently affiliated with the institute and will be subject to space availability.
Applications should include a cover letter describing the candidate's research interests and project(s) to be pursued at the institute, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of two academic references. Candidates should also identify current U-M faculty members, scholars, or researchers whose work relates to their own, or with whom they plan to collaborate. Applications for the next academic year are reviewed on a rolling basis.
