Greggor Mattson is an assistant professor of sociology at Oberlin College. His research investigates the public regulation of private pleasures, especially how communities try to control sexuality or alcohol. He is completing a book manuscript about recent European conflicts over prostitution and human trafficking. Based on interviews with the politicians, welfare agents, and nonprofit activists responsible for implementing new national policies, he explores what officials are actually regulating and the divergent policy paths taken in the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Germany. Prof. Mattson also holds the title of 2011-12 OKUM Visiting Scholar, in the university’s sociology department.
